Every year Muskerry Pony Club organises a residential camp during the first week of July. For decades this camp was held in the beautiful grounds of Ryecourt Estate in Cloughduv. In 2015 circumstances forced a move, and the club were lucky to find a wonderful new venue at Carrigdarrery House, Lissarda. For the next five years Muskerry had wonderful weeks for upwards of 55 members, hosted by former DC Róisín Crowley and the FitzGerald family. The restrictions of 2020 did not allow for a camp but we did hold a substitute Training Clinic. In 2021 we were lucky enough to be allowed host a traditional camp (although non-residential due to Covid) at the farm of Eddie & Ursula McDonagh in Bealnamorrive.
A crucial part of camp are our instructors and the club is very grateful to our wonderful instructors who make this event so formative and so memorable for all participants. Thanks also to the hard-working Muskerry parents who paint poles, build cross-country fences, secure paddocks, cook, clean up, supervise, and dismantle everything and pack it away until next year. The running of Camp is a 'Big Ask' of the parents every year, but we all rise to the challenge and get the job done.
Members from age 12 upwards can stay at Camp overnight (in a caravan or tent provided by you). You must also have been a member of the Club for at least a year - so that we know you and your pony. Ponies camp too, either in a field with the other ponies or sometimes we can arrange stabling. Recent members, and the under 12's attend on a daily basis. Camp usually costs 250 Euro approx. All members must have have attended at least five mounted rallies in the previous year to be eligible to attend Summer Camp.
